It is that time of year when severe weather is a threat to the community. 
Tornadoes, thunder storms and floods. As with any natural disaster, it is important to have an emergency plan in place BEFORE it occurs. Our department is flooded with calls during severe weather from citizens asking “what do I do?” There are important links in this post that can be helpful for your specific needs and situation. It is also advisable to have an emergency kit.
Remember, in the event of power outages, all malfunctioning traffic lights are to be treated as STOP SIGNS.
In the event of an emergency, listen to local radio, NOAA(National Weather Service) and utilize other media outlets for updates on weather conditions.
Weather Terms:
Tornado Watch- Tornadoes are possible. Remain alert for approaching storms. Watch the sky and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information.
Tornado Warning (Listen for tornado sirens)– A tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar. Take shelter immediately.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch– Tells you when and where severe thunderstorms are likely to occur. Watch the sky and stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning– Issued when severe weather has been reported by spotters or indicated by radar. Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property to those in the path of the storm.
What do I do about power? Please keep in mind that calling 911 and administrative lines tie up dispatchers and officers who are handling emergencies. If a downed line or transformer constitutes a hazard, please inform the dispatcher with the exact location of the problem. On 6-7-10, the Certified station on Western Ave., was robbed by a knife wielding man. The suspect made off with an undetermined amount of cash money. Ofcs. from the patrol division were on scene within a minute and got a description and direction of travel for the suspect.
Within a few minutes after that, the suspect was apprehended in the area of the Dogwood apartments on Western Ave.
The suspect was transported to the Ross Co. Jail on felony robbery charges.
