Drug Take Back event

Drug Take-Back Set for Saturday, February 19, 2011

The Chillicothe Police Department, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, and Ohio State Highway Patrol, in collaboration with the Paint Valley ADAMH Board and the Ross County Drug Abuse Prevention Coalition are hosting a DRUG TAKE BACK EVENT. The event is scheduled for SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 FROM 10:00AM – 2:00PM at the ROSS COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPLEX, 28 N PAINT STREET.
The purpose of such an event is to provide citizens a way to properly discard unwanted, unused, or expired medications. With the explosion of prescription drug abuse, not only in our community, but throughout the nation, we feel these types of events are necessary to reduce the number of prescription drugs that are available for abuse. We do realize that, used properly, these drugs are needed. However, we have found that many times individuals do not use the entire prescriptions for various reasons. When the prescription drugs are left in homes for extended periods of times, often unaccounted for, they can easily become available for abuse.
At these events, the name of the individual submitting the drugs to be destroyed is not collected. This event will collect all types of medications or drugs, illegal or otherwise, without questioning the individual who is submitting the drugs to be destroyed. The nature of this event is not to pursue any criminal charges, but to remove the possibility and reduce the number of drugs available for abuse.
If you have any questions regarding this event you can contact Officer Bud Lytle, Chillicothe Police Department at 740-773-1191 or Deputy Dave Weber, Ross County Sheriff’s Office at 740-773-1186.
